Case backhoe pins

Soft pins are going to wear quicker and can cause wear in any bore that moves around the soft pin. Sometimes abrasive material will imbed in a soft pin or bushing, and cause wear in the mating part.

If the shear strength of the soft pin material is less than the material of the hard pin, it could fail (bend or break) before the correct pin.

Bottom line is it belongs to you, use what you want.

Do you really need hardened pins for bucket and hoe that only gets used 10 hrs a year ???
For 10 hours a year it will never make a difference what hardness pins you use. If you're digging hardpan soils regularly wear will be a factor. To be faithful with your grease gun before doing hard digging makes a huge difference. If you are making up new pins, look for used hydraulic rams of the right measurements, they will be equally as durable as buying brand new ones.
