Case Backhoe Questions.

Hi all, new to the site and see there is lots of information here for sure. Great site!
I just brought home a good old backhoe for work around the property and have spent the last few days getting to know it and poking around for information to do a service.

Problem is it looks like a '58-'59 Case but the serial number "6087310" seems to make it a '57!?! I thought the '57 was the last of the round nose 300 series?
Have a dealer service manual for the tractor and it is somewhat vague in regards to types of oil and filters to be used in the different areas, although it does have quantities. I also noticed that the Group "C"- Instruments and Electrical section is missing, but that seems to be the case for all of these manuals. Is there a reason for that and can anyone point me in the right direction to find this section? I have a dead short in the system and the PO rewired it but it seems the longest piece of wire he had were pieces about 2 feet long!

(quoted from post at 09:29:06 03/22/17) I believe that 1957 is closer to correct. It has the old ATC nose cone and not the Case nose cone.
Loren
I agree. The front nose cone is very heavy duty and pretty much the same as the front end of the ATC dozer. The Case serial number tag on the dash also puts it at 1957. Thanks for the extra set of eyes.
Cheers

I've a manual for my 310B hoe/loader dated Nov l958 with a wiring diagram. I don't have a flat bed
scanner, just a batch scanner for separate pages. If no one posts a diagram for you, I'll scoot down the
road to our township clerk and scan that page for you, if you think it will work.

W-3's were built in the early to mid 60's but you have a good point as this machine has the self leveling loader,, I am wondering what it is as the serial tag should have the model as well I think he is reading the loader serial possibly if thats the case and the battery is in front of the shifter I am with you saying its a W-3 need more pics around it to be sure

Hello all, thanks for the input, and information. The serial tag gives the Model Number as G-320-W. From what I'm trying to garner from that is that it the "G" is for a gas engine, the "320" indicates that it is a 310 but has the self leveling linkage to make it a 320 and the "W" would indicate that it is a wheel / rubber tired unit.... would that be correct? The battery sits behind the dash just over the steering column behind the fuel tank. It also has a rather large angular "U" shaped hydraulic tank that is mounted under the transmission / bellhousing area.

I'll try and get a some better pictures this afternoon after the chores.

Ok, got a few more pictures. The loader serial number is 4000687 if that helps pin down the date.
Anyways here are a few more pictures.

The dash is intact, just a little frost on it this morning. None of the gauges work, but I hope to investigate that further.
Thanks for your time folks.
Cheers

In the third set of pictures , What do I see in the background? Looks like a ford 8N or ?? with 1/2 tracks and skies to steer it ? Interesting to look at , hope to see another pic of it. clint

From what i see it is clearly NOT a W-3. I realize that an old tractor may have lots of updates or changes made to them by previous owners....but here is what i see. The shuttle shifter is not of the W-3 style.....neither is the throttle lever....it has no case-o-matic lever or a hole in the dash for one.....the grill screen is not right for a W-3.....the loader frame is not of the W-3 style....the steering wheel isn't right....the front wheel hubs look wrong for a W-3.....the battery should be under the dash. I agree with Loren. I have a W-3 and this isn't one of them...Paul

(quoted from post at 01:31:24 03/24/17) Read ALL the posts it is a 320
So I guess it is a 1957 then. Thanks for all the great info! I'll do a search for the 300B Ag wiring section and see how that goes.
For oleclint.... the background is an 8N 1950 vintage I have a set of Arps tracks on it and a set of homemade skis. Steers fine, steers way better using the either brake depending on which way you want to turn and how tight a turn you need. Reversing is not what this thing likes to do, so you need to make sure you realize this before you head into the woods!

That's great Case Nutty 1660, Thanks so much. I'm not sure if I need the back of the dash, but if it is handy, I wouldn't say no.

You've all been great, thank you. I think I may have a handle on the required fluids for the tractor. As far as the year of manufacture goes, I will stick with the unit being a 1957 as this seems to be what the serial number would indicate.
Now I just need t clean her up, do a service and get ready for a busy summer!
Cheers
