Case CC gas tank webbing strap?

I am restoring a 1937 Case CC and just finished painting everything with PPG paint. I am installing the gas tank which is held on by 2 metal straps. My question is should I put some webbing material under the straps - I don't think there was any webbing under the straps originally, but I hate to put metal straps right on the newly painted gas tank. How have other people done it and should I use black or white webbing like on my farmall F-12.

When we restored my friends cletrac we used 1" leather dress belts for holdn up your britches. They were black on one side and brown on the other. Used them on the hood,gas tank and where ever metal to metal could be prevented.

My 37 CC has web material between the tank and cradle, the steel straps over the top doesn't. I have a parts book that will show this but it's out in the shop. I can check tomorrow if you still need it. PK
