[Case1936CC]

Ok I have somewhat of a problem. I have a 36 case cc that I tractor pull with, last year I pulled with 4in pistons and dual fuel head, was told 5505 head was a better head so I put one on with new bearings and rings over the winter. Only pulling right at 100 ft in 4250 class. Last year before the new parts was pulling over 225 ft in 4250 class. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

I left a post on the pulling site. How did you put in new bearings? Do you mean you had your rod's re-babbited? Mains are align bored in the block and need to be kept in a matched set if transferred to another block. Too much timing lead and they won't lug worth a darn.

Yes I had the rods rebabbited. Timing is set to stock specs with the mag I believe.

Who said "stock specs" are exactly right? There is some variance between lining up the mark and where the mag actually fires in relation to the engine position. I'm not saying it is for sure a timing issue. I'm just throwing an idea out there. You are going to have to run it on a dyno. If you don't want to listen, don't ask!

I don't know anyone that has a dyno for a tractor.

I got a Ferguson tractor in the shop here years ago that ran like that. I found the timing gears 2 teeth out of time. Someone must have put it together on a Monday morning after a rough weekend.

As a start, I would hook it to set of plows and experiment by turning the mag. Run it up to TDC and check the valves to make sure they are closed. On my Case SC I think the mag should fire 1/2 inch before TDC.

Do you still have the original Zenith carb that your CC would of came out with? They have a bigger jet than the carbs that are on the D series and make it run a lot better. I have a CC set up just like yours and have yet to be beat in the 4500 lb class. If you didn't take the mag off, then timing should not be the problem. Run autolite 3116 plugs and make sure your wires are solid copper wires.

It has a zenith on it. I have those autolite plugs as well

Hi what's the number on your zenith carb? I haven't taken the mag off since I have owned the tractor I can tell it's been apart. If I'm right the mag fires about half an inch before tdc, where should the rotor be pointing at this point? I have a 4-cma mag.
