case D oil leak

New User
I have a CASE D tractor with a high amount of oil leak. Between crankshaft and the flywheel. Also there is no oil seal on the rear of the crankshaft . The bell housing is one part of the engine block
( no gasket )
is anyone can think of what can be the reason for that?

Hello nahum welcome to YT! Not real familiar with a
Case D but I do know they utilize a wet clutch. Engine
oil provides the lubrication for it. So if you have a plate
or plug off in that area and you run the tractor oil will
leak out.

thanks
Our tractor is built with a dry clutch
Is it possible that the oil pressure is too high?
Does anyone know what the normal oil pressure is in this tractor?

What is your argument based on that makes you say it
has a ..dry.. clutch. I agree it looks like it is designed
the same as a dry clutch but it is indeed a wet or oiled
clutch. The online manufacturers parts catalog
diagrams shows just as you have reported no seal on
the back of the crankshaft before its connection to the
flywheel. Which means oil from the backside of the
rear main bearing is free to flow out. There are 3 serial
number breaks for the tractor as it was manufactured
between 1939 and 1955. I just looked at all three and
they all show an engine with no rear seal. In addition
they show seals on the cross shaft for the clutch
throwout bearing which is another requirement for a
wet clutch housing. I think the verdict of the jury is in
the tractor utilizes a wet clutch.
I have attached the online catalog, you can look for
yourself. It will open to the earliest serial number
break. To see the other two later SN break groups type
..Case D.. in the search box and they will show up for
you to select.

As Red says, every D Series tractor that left Racine had a wet clutch, fed as red says. The D Series
uses a Bell Housing Gasket which we stock as well as the seals.

Ask anybody on here John Saeli is Mr. Case. His family ran a J. I. Case dealership, see link. Go to the top of the page and click search in the red outlined box. Type his name in to search by author, hit search. Start reading his posts, you will soon find out he is a knowledgeable man on Case machinery. Best of luck with your tractor!

Nahum it is NOT a dry clutch you've come to a Case forum where people hang out that know Case tractors. Read the posts, it is a wet clutch. gobble

ya ok ,.. i dont think so,... the only dry clutch they had was before it was installed in the tractor. where did u get this info?? 20 lbs is
good. i have these tractors in case u think i am talking b.s. post a picture of your tractor as you might have a different model, than all
the D series. more than one person know all this stuff.

even the 900 i have here is a wet oil bath clutch. early 930's are the same also. plus you need to remove the side plate to adjust the clutch . and i dont need to look up a thing to find an answer, cause my answers are all from hands on experience.

at the front of the bell housing is a pipe plug .when you change oil remove that
plug .about a quart engine oil will drain out. its a must do thing when changing
oil or your gonna contaminate your new oil
