A neighbor brought me a 885 david brown that lift would not raise. I pulled the two valves which one was stuck and the 1/8 balls were missing. Replaced them and put it back together. The lift will raise only when control is in the lower position and lower in the raise position and the selector on TCU position. What have I done wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.

What does it do when in "height" or "depth" position.

Sounds like TCU is working, the lever works backwards for TCU.

I have a 380 that does the same thing, was that way when I got it, the TCH on mine lifts light things like a mower, I think it is just on full sensing with it all the way down,, I was hoping someone would already have said its this or that lol

I'm inclined to believe it is something mechanical, not hydraulic.

Does the spool valve move when in "height" if you work the lever?

The spool valve can be seen through the hole where you cleaned the valves, just behind them. It has nuts on top of it.

I have an 880 here that just came home from a consignment auction doing the same thing. I haven't had time to tear into it.

I will say when my control lever moves to the place it should start raising and go to full raise it feels like it is not connected to anything inside, where tch is on the lower side of the travel you can feel it moving a a valve, I assumed something was left unhooked when someone had worked on it before I got it, if that helps, I have just never took time to check it out, oh and if you place the selector in anything other than tch it does not work at all

Next step, I'd pull off the 4x6" cover on the right rear by the rockshaft and see if anything looks obviously wrong. Loose bolts missing/broken parts etc.

am I correct to have the spool with the point on the tip next to the seat and the one with the plastic screen next to the fender?

The "Valve" with the 5 little notches in end is the "bypass valve", it goes next to the fender.

The "valve" with the small teat on the end is the "hold valve", it goes next to the seat.

The "spool valve" is behind both of these, centered between them. It has threads and nuts on top.
