Case Davis 30+4 starter

I have a case davis 30+4 that needs a stater. The starter that came off it was a prestolite mbg 4141 which has 10
teeth. My parts book calls for a Delco Remy 1109424 which has 9 teeth. When I first got it it would crank and run
but it got to where it would not start. Any idea? Does it make a difference on the teeth.
