case dc intake manifold

hello to you guys again

I have a question about dc intake
as a tractor is used and over time the intake ferrule degrades does this have a effect on the starting or performance of the tractor. I
know that the exhaust side will wear out much quicker but i imagine you might here or notice a change in the tractor sooner than the intake
side. my tractor is a little cold hearted even in warm weather. carb and valves are clean and properly adjusted so I was just reflecting on
the manifold and ferule's

inquiring mind's want to know
Bob
thanks for any light that can be shared on this

My SC didn't have any ferrules when I bought it. Now, 33 years later it still doesn't. I used silicon on the gasket and made sure the manifold was centered and straight. Starts and runs just fine.

Wow Every DC intake Ive taken off (10-12) even after 50-70 years I dont know that Ive ever seen the intake ferrule gone or worn away. Exhausts are always gone but besides rust on the bottom side to some degree the intake ferrules are always there. Im in Iowa so maybe humid vs dry air plays part but I doubt it.

Any degradation would have an impact on starting but Ive never seen it that bad. If some of the pullers chime in they get pretty precise on the intakes. Polishing and grinding for better airflow makes a lot of difference for performance at max horsepower. Not sure thats what youre after but everything has an impact on running to some extent.

Thanks guys I just was thinking ,as I have never had a intake/exhaust on a dc tractor and just wondering if it would cause a lean condition.but your replies have put that theory to bed thanks for you help

Bob
Hope your new year is happer than last year

I will admit I don't quite understand what you are talking about, but I had an experience with a SC Case I owned. Maybe an idea for your problem. I think it was the exhaust manifold had eroded or warped away from the block. You could see daylight there. I found the flattest spot on my garage floor, layed down wax paper, built up the manifold with jb weld where it didn't meet the block and pressed it down on the floor. Once it was dry, I pealed off the waxed paper cleaned up the ports a little and put it on. It fit nice and tight against the gasket and stayed fixed as long as I had the tractor.

If you are concerned that its sucking air around the intake manifold you can try letting it run at an idle and spray A LITTLE starting fluid or carb cleaner around the intake. If leaking it will pickup speed.
