I picked up this machine at a sale this summer so don't know all about it yet. Early model with the International Engine.
It shows 2700 rpm when running at full throttle, This seems fast to me. Anyone know what the rpms are supposed to be

Hi Allan

Got an old 1420 here. High idle no load is 2900 rpm which seems high for a diesel but that is what they like. I usually try to load it working to around 2700 to 2800 rpm. The good thing about these is they tend to run out of power before you will break things or you can plug it up as well. Ask me how I know this. Careful of any green stuff.

My 1660 has the Case/Cummins 8.3. I believe they want the wide open no load speed to be 2750, which is ridiculous. Also, as I remember, loaded speed is supposed to be 2500. My low speed alarm comes on at 2450, and is not adjustable. My wide open no load speed is around 2550. This engine will push the turbo boost gauge up near full load before the alarm sounds. 250 RPM differential between no load, and load may be normal on an old gas engine, but again, I think is ridiculous on this engine.

The engine which came in this combine [used] we found out later, was not the original engine. We found this out after it ventilated the block with #3 rod. So this machine is on, at least, its third engine! A combine engine should out last the machine, and live on to power something else. Speed kills in more ways than one!
