Case IH 385

I just bought a Case IH 385 and wondering if it is safe to run 15-40 rotella in tractor, thanks for any help!

Thank You for your advise, I have seen so many different opinions online so I figured I would try this forum, I figured you guys would know, any alternatives to hy-Tran ? Thanks Clint

The hytran is what it is supposed to have in it. I don't run hytran in the older tractors like that with gear drive transmissions . The 7140 with the power shift I 'm not sure what my brother is using in it. I have had to ad some of the oil I use and according to my supplier he says it is hytran compatible so I don't worry about a gallon or so. I figure it is better than no oil or severely low oil.

Don't know what vendors are around you. There are many premium universal transmission hydraulic fluids available at most farm and auto parts stores. Read the labels. The UTHF should say it meets the Hy-Tran spec. John Deere's Hy Gard (J20C) and AGCO's Permtran and 821XL would be similar. Do not use oils named 303.

Yes for the engine 15-40 is a good choice. It has the zinc needed for theolder tractor engines that is missing in the oils for the newer cars and pickups today.

I have the 395 and run Rot-T 15w-40 in the engiine because it's C (combustion rated) and a good heavy duty engine
oil. Any universal gear oil I use with the spec J 20C. Since JD is a popular brand with stringent specs, most tractor
oils with hydrostatic trannies, steering, common sump, and wet brakes, will include in the applicable listing.

Before you start, get a hydraulic filter while you are picking up the engine oil filter. Canister is under and behind the
left foot rest on the side of the main casting. Hydraulic sump drain is that big nut just forward of the drawbar
anchoring pen.
