case IH 950 planter

My son bought a case Ih 950 12 row planter at an auction. We cant get the hydraulics to work properly. We hooked up the electric control box at the auction but We couldnt get it to lift up the wing wheels. So we just loosened the hydraulic line and jacked them up and chained them. We got it home but now the wing wheels dont want to go down. Just the opposite as at the auction. We have it hooked to a JohnDeere tractor. Maybe thats the problem lol

Wing wheels probably blocked out for transport mode. Power probably not going to where it needs to go in box, broken wire on planter, or solenoid allowing flow to wings not operative. If wing control is governed by solenoid then try running hot wire plus ground wire to the solenoid and observe results. Be careful not to get caught in pinch points with fingers, hands or other body parts. Wires especially those in frame get broken, rubbed bare, or chewed by rodents. Good time to chase a problem versus being in the heat of planting season.

We will check out the wiring a little better when it warms up. We borrowed the neighbors 4 wheel drive 4250 to pull it home. All my son has is a 4020. Im glad we did. The tongue weight on this thing is extreme. We put a chain under the draw bar and up over the 3 point lift arms. It still loads the draw bar pretty good. We were hoping the 4020 would pull this thing but not so sure now.

I assume this is a Kelderman fold, yes they have a lot of drawbar weight when in transport mode and even more when its loaded with seed and insecticide. On a veritcal fold the wing wheels are mounted rigid to the front of the toolbar. The marker control box has to be hooked up and connected to the planter to be able to raise and lower the planter. The box doesn't have to be turned on though. Make sure it has a good ground connection. There is valve on each wing lift cylinder carrying wheel. With the planter folded out in field use position lower the planter down to the ground then go around behind the carrying wheel on each wing and open the ball valve and when you do this on each wing the planter may settle a little lower when you open each valve, that's normal. Then get back on tractor and raise the planter all the way up, all 6 carrying wheels should be on the ground and carrying the planter weight and ready to plant. When the field is done you set planter all the way down go back and close the two valves on the wing carrying wheels, raise planter all the way up and fold wings around for transport. The two wing wheels will be locked in the up position now.

Is this a front fold planter? You're going to need to get an operators manual. The two CIH 12R30s i have were an end transport and Kelderman fold were the wings folded back around against the front of the frame were the hoppers mount 3 rows on each side. Mine doesn't use a seperate fold box, just hit the hdyraulic lever and each wing folds around one at a time. I can't help with the front fold version. You can also look at the caseih parts site too and see if that will help any.

The front fold ops manual # is 9-23962 and there is a couple on ebay. Your CIH dealer can also get new manual reprints if they're a good dealer. You could also go over to the Redpower forum site, register and get help there too.
