Got my LA running today after six months of hibernation and cosmetic surgery. Started once by 6 v battery and jumper cables, once by hand, and once off my truck's battery. Ran out of gas.(Brings back memories when I ran Dad's LA out of gas twice in the same day. Fuel was being rationed.) 2 gal/hr idling seems like a lot. Then I took of the rear tires to refit them with newer ones. A good day!

I think LAs are nice tractors and as you say thirsty on gas/petrol. I dilute the main tank with kero and she"s more economical, for an LA anyway. Mine is just crank start but pretty well behaved. In lots of ways it"s easier than keeping another battery charged.
..... so what cosmetic surgery did you have to do?

Great old girls those LA's. Got Dad's '49 going a couple of months ago after sitting for 30 years. Fenders need painting then come the decals. I think I appreciate it much more now than when I was a kid. Too bad gas isn't still 15 cents.

Cosmetic surgery: Sandblasting the sheet metal and hammering out and bondo-ing the fenders.

Around here I wouldn't even think of putting Kerosene in this junk called gas. Gas is high, diesel is higher, and Kerosene...OMG. This is just my little corner of Texas of course.

Hi,
well I bought a cheap 44 gal drum of kero some years ago and so am still using that in my hobby tractors mixing it with petrol/gas. I picked up another drum of out of date helicopter fuel, they call it Jet A-1 here...basically just high quaility kero. So have that to use as well. They seem to run well on it. Not just my LA.
So we are paying AU$1.50 a litre for petrol, $1.40/litre for diesel......heaps more for little plastic containers of kero. What is fuel worth in the US? Regards Andrew

Hi Paul,did you fix your brakes on your "LA"? I'm sure yours has the hydraulic brakes also,and a bearcat to fix
Talk to a friend of mine that did one,and told me no,I wont do yours or another one again!

Last week low grade unleaded was $3.29/US gallon and this week it is $3.39, diesel $3.69 etc. here. http://gasbuddy.com/ is a website to find price info.
