Case model 41 magneto

hope you all have a happy new year,
my question is how do you loosen the screws on a model 41 mag without breaking off the screws as have had a couple of cores that could not get cap loose and I know magneto shops can get the loose or drill them out ,but I am frightened to go that route. I am sure many have run in to this as I dont want to ruin a good mag i need some advice how to remove the steel screws from aluminum housing. thanks for helping me out as I am stuck

I would use a 3/8 drive HAND impact driver and a proper fitting screwdriver bit. I can't stress enough that a snug fit across the entire head is mandatory. Many times just the fact that the bit fits and with the good leverage granted by the driver, you can break things loose w/o having to slap it with a hammer. These tools are very common in the motorcycle industry with their aluminum engine cases and and transmission cases that have to be split in half in order to gain access to their internals. Larry
