Case o matic grinds

Good evening fellas,

I have been looking through the archives to learn about my 611B Case O Matic. It will grind while trying to put it in gear. I have read that it may be due to the wrong fluid in the converter.

I think the proper fluid is TCH or dextron III. Any ideas on fluid capacities for this tractor?

Thanks in advance for your help.

your on the right track ,, trouble is it will grind regardless , because thats the nature of the BEAST,, MY 800 TAKES UNDER 4 GALLON , you should have a dipstick someplace ,, check it many times after fluid change ,, takes a while to find true fliud level/..

J, I use the method for the filling of the shuttles in later backhoe units for the TC fill. High gear engine idling, brakes locked of course, in a range so the gear splash is stopped as all motion of the shafts is stopped, the only thing moving would be the pump. Run for a few minutes to allow converter fill and then bring to level checked running. You will get an accurate fill that way but bear in mind that a morning check after filling properly before running will show overfill as the converter will drain back overnite which is normal. This method should get rid of the uncertainty of proper fill or not. mEl

A fluid change & re-fill is the proper step to take, but most likely the multiple drive discs in the converter are warped causing a drag. An overhaul is the only solution in that case. To avoid grinding, we would start them in gear.
