Case plow

Anyone on this site know the Case plow
line pretty well? What can you tell me
about the difference between GA/GT series
from from CHA/CHT series? Both being pull
type, they look the same in pictures,
appear to be in same time frame. T meaning
trip beam, H meaning hydraulic I would
assume. Are there clearance differences
or?

I agree with Tom, Connor9988 should be able to tell you the answers to your Case plow questions. I do have a 4-16 GT and it is light duty and has a bent beam. Don

Here is one I just picked up, that I think is a CHT. Thoughts? 4-16, pretty nice shape actually.

The CH/CHT plows were the premium trail plow and the G/GT were the economy model. The T in both model lines signified the trip bottom version while the CH and G models had the trip hitch. The CH models had the axles mounted above the frame to provide more clearance for corn stalks and other trash. The axles operated in a scissor action, with the furrow wheel moving rearward as the land wheel moved forward when the plow lifted. The G models had both axles mounted under the frame and both axles operated in the same direction when raising or lowering. On the CH versions, the link to the tail wheel pushes back to lift the tail wheel, while the linkage on the G version pulls to lift the tail wheel. Consequently, the G uses a rod (perhaps 5/8 or 3/4) for that linkage, whereas the CH uses a heavy pipe(like 1 and 1/4 schedule 80 perhaps)to push back on the tailwheel mechanism for lifting the plow. Those are the main differences. Of course, the axles and other components were different. I think the CH models had a bit more rank between bottoms but am not sure on that.

I thank you for the information. I do have a 3-16 that I thought was a CHT, but after your posting not so sure. It has the pipe for the pushing on the tail wheel, but the land and furrow axles are under mounted. Maybe it was assembled wrong, as now that I look at it, the axle carrier mounts appears as though it fit if turned down. This one I know where it was when new, and was sold by Elmer Gieger out of St Paul.
Was pulled by a 460d IH. I remember the day it was delivered, but it sat under some trees and is pretty much rust colored with very little paint. Decals seem to hold up better. Thanks again for the insight.
