Case SI Steering worm and wormgear

I just opened my CASE SI to repair the huge steering slack and find out that the "Wormgear" is not a wormgear but just a Steel gear with slanted teeth.
I tought that was bronze and also that had the contour of the worm on the gear so it can be adjusted (the clearance-slack) by pushing the wormgear and shaft mounted on with the side screw.
Can anyone clarify if this is original equipto?

The most common cause of play in Case steering boxes is with wear on the column shaft. The worm gear is on this shaft and can be tightened by removing the column shaft from the top of the transmission. Remove the bolts from the column and remove by turning it out. There is a nut at the bottom with a cotter key to hold it. Remove the key and turn the nut ONLY until play is removed from the gear and the shaft turns freely.
Before you install it, remove the steering arm and thrn the sector gear 1/2 turn and reinstall the arm. Be very careful with the cone bearing on the bottom of the shaft when you reinstall it... Gene
