Case tractor conversion

Looking for a wirering diagram specifically for a 1954 case DC4. I want to convert from 6 volt to 12 volt. Can anyone help please and thank you. Norm J

This diagram was posted on a YT page at some time, it is a good pattern to use, you may want to use a single wire alternator but on a DC I would use this print a shown. reason being, Self energizing alternators take a few rpms to get going and sometime times the slow speed DC engine will not turn it fast enough to self excite. Depending on your coil type you may not need the ignition resistor, test your coil with an ohm meter to be sure the primary is no less than 3 Ohms resistance, if it is 3 or above no resistor is needed. You should be able to double click on the print to enlarge it.

In addition to what mEl stated regarding the coil, that is if the original magneto has been replaced with a battery ignition distributor. If it still has a magneto, no action needs to be taken there as it is a self contained unit.

X2! Once I was given a Fairbanks FMJ mag to work on, someone had hooked 12V to the ground out terminal. It fried the points till all the spring tension was gone to close them AND it melted the brown plastic covering off the coil and it ran down through the whole rotor area locking the mag right fast. Not even worth bothering with for repair. Your point is well taken as there are still many of those old Case mags earning their keep, Many are not aware that the Case mag was a very popular in the avaition field as well. Slick bought out Cases Mag line and still makes mags but unfortunately no replacement parts for the old Case. I do have a few new old stock capacitors, Impulse pieces and odds and ends.

Thank you both for your help

James 1911, you are correct, The 10SI Delco has a slow turn regulator available , the D10AC, I have installed several, they are available online, you remove the diode trio and add internal wiring so the rotor is being fed from the rectifier bridge, My 830 with such conversion idles at better than 30 Amps. Where space is a consideration I have been using the small Japanese Alts as used on Kubota and many other brands.
