Case VAC 1953 Camshaft

I have to replace my camshaft, so i found a used one online. It measures the same in all key dimensions, but it has an extra round part that can serve no purpose for me, but maybe it was made for something later? I can't see why i can't use it, any ideas?
#2, my old camshaft gear had two retainers on it for the govenor, but the new gear does not have that, it is star shaped. so i don't think i can use the new gear that came with the cam.
So i can probably use the old one, but can somebody tell me how to get the camshaft gear off? i was thinking simple gear puller? i can send pictures if needed
thanks

The extra round part that you describe may be an eccentric for a fuel pump. I believe that the cams on all VAC engines should be interchangeable, but none had fuel pump eccentrics, so you might end up with different cam timing.
Also, the gear should press off of the camshaft after you unscrew the nut. There is also a key which prevents it from rotating on the shaft, but this should not prevent you from pressing it off. You should be able to press the old gear onto the new shaft.

The eccentric was added when the 300 series came out as that engine was used in several power unit applications and needed the fuel pump for some of them. You probably have a G2003 or G2049. The original would be a VT333. The timing is supposed to be the same. The cam gear usually comes off fairly easy so there should not be a problem changing it. Lee
