Case wrenches

I have questions that I cannot find an answer to in research.
I came across some open end wrenches marked CASE with various number stampings.
I had always heard the company supplied tools with the purchase of a tractor or implements in the old days.
I wondered if there were people who collected these tools and where I might find out more about them, such as the color.
Some of the wrenches I have show traces of a red paint (flambeau?). Does anyone know how I could find out which wrenches and any other
tools were supplied with the VAC? I am currently restoring two of them and it would just tickle me to death to be able to put actual CASE tools in the tool box.
Thanks a million.
Also thank you for all the advice and wisdom I have gained over the years from reading your experiences and commentary.
You really are a very special group.

One of the things that seem foreign to us now days is manufacture supplied tools. However when the horse to tractor conversion started you have to remember that tools were very limited on the farm. Probably a hammer, anvil, monkey wrench and the like. Wrenches to actually fit the nuts and bolts were not common back then.

As to the point of your quest, I think gmcool might have you covered.

I found a small channel-lock style pliers with my father-in-law's tools stamped CASE. About four inches overall. Always thought it was from the knife company. Can't find the picture.

I have never seen any painted old wrenches. I would bet that the paint got on them by accident during a painting project, or someone thought that they would go better with his tractor if they were painted to match.

Speaking of Case tools. I would love to find the spanner wrench used to adjust the steering on the 51 and later Vac's. Maybe not necessary as the part you would use the wrench on is probably frozen after 75 years.

I believe case plows were supplied with stamped steel wrenches that were painted.

I have a book that lists CASE wrenches by Number if that would help in any way.
It certainly would. I have been looking for any references at all and the only thing I can find is a page from an unknown parts catalog .
Would you sell it? Loan it?
Or tell me how you got it?

Thanks!

I wonder about the paint. I have about 15 or so of these now. The ones that have traces of paint
are all bright red.
I've not seen any other colors, so I would guess they were all painted when new .

Another thing comes to mind. There are two types of wrenches I see: the stamped steel open end type with a part number and CASE stamped on. Another type looks forged and has multiple holes and wrenches and is angled. These all have J I CASE PLOW WORKS.
TWo different ompanies?

The JI Case Plow and J I Case Threshing where 2 different companys. Here is a scan of the history of each out of a Wrench book I have
There also was a Different company that made wrench's with Case on them. Case MFG co. Columbus oH. in the 1870's-1890's
And Some Wrench's Did come with paint on them

Yes, the stamped steel plow wrenches were painted in Case plow frame red, I have some somewhere but could find the rusty one first, they were functional units but not great ones, most seemed to wind up on a shelf and better choices went to the field.

Functional is a nice way to put it.
Those old farmers must have had hands like bear paws to use those flat wrenches.
Thanks for confirming about the painting.
By the way, if those are your videos on YouTube, I enjoy those.

Did not know about the Case Manuf Co. Now I need to figure out the time frame these wrenches were made in. Just looking at them I would guess 1930 to wartime era. Thanks for the info.
