Cast block repair cost .

I have a cracked Chrysler block and called a shop to have it pinned. The shop said bring it down so they can see the repair needed. They could not give a quote by phone. Has anyone had this done and at what cost? Also how long was the crack in inches that you had repaired?

The website in the link claims...

"Speed. Installing LNS products can be done quickly with pneumatic tools. Up to one inch of repair can be done in 5 minutes in 1/4" thick cast iron."

I know my machine shop charges $75.00 an hour, and I believe that's cheap. But, I never had a machine shop charge me only 5 minutes shop time! But I would expect even a small crack repair to be well over $500.00.

Is the block and application something rare and exotic? What is the condition of the bores and everything else? There maybe more cracks than what is immediately visible?
Maybe time to consider a hot tanking ? Some people pre heat a block or head and weld with Muggy Weld rods.

When the rear-end housing cracked on my tractor, I called Loc N Stitch and they quoted me 1200.00 to repair it. (I live about 30 miles from their shop in Turlock, CA.) But, if I repaired it myself, the pins, drill bits, etc. would run about 300.00. I'm not all that mechanical, but the job was pretty simple, and my son and I did it. That was about 2 1/2 years ago and it's as good as new.

I had a crack about 6" long at the rear bell housing area in the water jacket on a Ford 390... It ran some were tween $80 and $120... He had bored out 7 cylinders and seen the crack... It was a engine I bought at auction at scrap price so told him to pin it... (maybe he cut me a deal ) Pre 70 390 blocks are hard to come by around here...
