Cast iron repair question

I broke this part of the head on my massey 65 with g176 continental gas engine when trying to change the temperature gauge. Anyone had any luck repairing something like this? I'm going to check with a local welder on Monday.

hard to see , is it just a shoulder ? if so never mind on fixing it. cant see if you have threads in your hand or not. and to fix that properly the head would need to be off.

There are threads on the broken piece. It's where the probe for the temp gauges threads in. I don't mind pulling the head if I have to

It may be best to remove the head and have that hole bored out and threaded to a pipe thread size that matches one of the brass bushings that come with some gauges. Then your probe would seat in the bushing and the threads for the probe nut will also be in the bushing.

I think I would forget the broken piece and build it up with a brazing rod. Then cut new threads.

I would try jb weld before I tore anything apart
Even if i had to get an aftermarket gauge an jb weld the bushing in

Looks like just the edge broke off. Is the hole still intact and are there any threads left? If so, I'd just put some sealer on the temp probe and screw it in there.

There's still about 2/3 of the hole diameter intact. There probably 1-2 threads in the bottom left where the piece broke out. The sealing surface for the probe is intact.

I've installed it dry. It does thread in and seem to seat fine. I'll try it with some sealer and possibly jb weld the broken piece on.
