Cat D8H dozer value?

I can buy a non running late sixties D8H cat, it has been sitting for 20 years,..apparently it lost oil pressure at that time. The owner got an heart attack shortly after and lost the ambition to fix it. The old man has now past away and the family is selling off the farm and equipment .
The cat appears in good shape,..the engine is loose ,oil levels are OK, no water in the pan. Pony starter might be seized,..not sure, no water in the pan either, no way to turn it cause the hand crank is missing.
The undercarriage is very good at 90% wear left.

What would it be worth ??.

If the undercarriage is like you say 90 it alone is worth a lot of money,if you get it for scrap value you should snap it up.

Scrap price is what I figured.
Hauling it to my yard will be $ 1500 +/_.
Scrap in my area is around $30/tonne.
If I offer $1500 for the cat + $1500 trucking I'm looking at 3 grand.
is it still worth that?

I plan on making it run again,..it might take 10 grand in parts alone if I need to rebuild the engine and the pup starter,..not knowing what else I might find till it runs. It is a power shift as well.

I would strongly suggest measuring the undercarriage, all of it. If it pans out to be that good, A D8H with just engine work needed may not be all that bad of an investment. These things were built and bought to work and be worked hard, do yourself a favor, look it over closely and or have an experience person check it out. You want to make sure those sprockets are tight on the shaft, no play, final drive leaks and or similar, big heavy tractor with heavy parts, not the easiest to work on. They were a desirable tractor with a good reputation.

If you take it on maybe consider going direct electric start if the pilot motor is bad

Checked prices on machinery sites, generally 20-30K, with some outliers above and below. I assume it has a hydraulic blade- I don't think they were putting cable blades on that model. So it looks like you've got a lot of room to work, if you can get it that cheap. They may be happy to have someone take it off their hands, and amenable to "modest" offer. As I recall, you're quite a ways up in the frozen north, so that should also work in your favor.
