CAT Model Twenty-Eight

FWIW: A book I just got sez every Cat has three number plates; on engine block, usually left rear viewed from flywheel; on machine (PIN) for tracked crawlers on left rear of main frame directly under fuel tank, for tracked loaders same place but above track sprocket; and "in operators compartment which lists engine, trans and machine numbers". Oops: is that wheeled? they're differennt, too..."machine PIN on left front of main frame. On older models forward and under trans on left of machine.Scraper ...on left side of bowl behind draft arms". Now all you have to do is find out, on yours, how far reality differs from theory. Good luck.

DOUBLE OOPS!! Forgot to look at next page in book; whole list of other Cats (wheeled quoted above was actually "wheel tractor-scrapers"). Eleven more listings: wheel tractors, loaders, skidders, etc.
Email with type if above doesn"t pan out. With sympathy, Bud

I found the serial number, it is 4F592W. It is a model Twenty-Eight which was built only from 1933 to 1935. I assume that mine is #592 off of the production line. I would like to know how many were built and what does the "W" at the end of the serial # mean?
