Hi,need a little advice.want to check te timing on my 1969 4020,read the book, but not 100%sure what mark I am looking for on the pump. Thanks for any input.

The CBC uses a timing pin that is already there, attached to the pump. You take it off and stick into the timing hole when the engine is on TDC of compression stroke for #1 cylinder.

If you need to check timing advance, with the engine running, you need the plastic timing window.

I got thinking . . . some of those C pumps came with the timing-pin not attached. If your's does not have it, just take out the plug and look in the hole. You can see the timing mark/recess when it lines up with that plug hole.

My pump didn t come with the pin,It all makes sense now. Thanks much.Just wondering, some day if the pump goes bad would I be better off to replace it with a JB or have the CBC rebuilt?

You can't get the CBC rebuilt. All major parts for it were discontinued near 30 years ago.

Anybody advertising "rebuilding" the CB pumps are fixing them with used parts. I did a few for people over the years, but I ran out of good parts. I used to have buckets full of old CDC and CBC pumps.

Deere has been selling conversion parts also for 30 years . . to convert to a DB or JDB pump. Now, Deere has been discontinuing even the conversion parts. If you like your tractor, I'd be hunting around for the parts, if not too late. Especially the conversion pump drive-shaft.

Without the conversion parts, you'd need to put in a new timing gear, along with a DB or JDB pump, driveshaft. linkage, injector lines, etc.

I made a few incorrect remarks. I forgot we're talking about a Waterloo engine and not a Dubuqu3. Your 4020 doesn't use a timing gear to drive the pump, so that's not an issue. To change, you just need the DB or JDB pump, driveshaft to match, new lines etc.

It's the Dubuque 300 series engines that require new timing gears . . or . . the conversion shaft.

Thanks again for the advice, what is the life of a cbc pump? The tractor has 5900 hours and I am sure the pump has never been touched.Several years back I got a deal on a set of lines for a JDB pump, just need to find a good or rebuildable pump.
