The freon line going to my outside unit have began to freeze/frost over.....what"s going on?

Mark,
If it is the large, suction line you most likely have an overcharge of refrigerant. If it is the small, liquid line you probably have a restriction.

ASSUMING he has not added refrigerant lately, he has the classic signs of reduced airflow through the evaporator, due to dirty filters, fan problems, or the evaporator fins are clogged with dust and lint, or other restriction to the airflow.

I made a call to a pal in the HVAC business and he said the same things.....your filter is plugged up or you're low on gas.

I pulled the filter.....which I always keep regularly serviced, and it was almost perfectly clean.

Over the last 5 years since the unit was installed, the evaporator coil may be dirty in spite of the filter, thereby reducing air flow. I don't have critters...other than the children....in the house.

So, I shut the unit down, but left the inside unit fan blowing to thaw things out. I'll just have it looked at. The service man can yank it apart and clean the coil and gas it up if need be.

Thanks for the answers.

Running the fan "on" instead of in "auto" helps prevent coil freeze ups. It also keeps the air in the house filtered and from settling into temperature zones
