Chain Saw adjustment tools

I bought new carb for my Poulin chainsaw. The adjustment nobs do not have a slot for a screw driver - they have tiny heads that look like a star drive - extremely small.
A guy I know showed me a small set of drivers he has that will fit heads. Any idea where you would find these or what they are called?

Sometimes you can use a butt connector from a wire kit that will fit over them and hold tight enough to turn with either your fingers or a pliers.

they sell tools specifically for adjusting those, but I shove a piece of 1/4 od poly tubing on them, and then shove a small Philips screwdriver into that. the problem is there is sometimes some slippage, so I'm not sure how much I've turned them. But, if they run well when your done that's what matters.

you can buy a set of the most common types on Amazon for next to nothing. The two most common are the pacman head and the splined. The only good thing about stihl chainsaws is they use a flat slotted head. Try a tight fitting undersized nut driver. sometimes you can cut slots in the heads with a dremel wheel. almost all carbs have a high and low screw setting. Identify each one. Find a starting point for each screw per factory and stay close to these with small adjustments till it runs right. I have a craftsman that needs adjustment on low idle every time I use it, if it runs good at high idle then only adjust the low idle and vice versa.

You can usually find them online. Just surf "carb tools" for the brand of saw.

Thanks - I just couldn't figure out what they were called. Typed in pacman and splined and found them in 10 seconds on ebay.

A short piece of fuel hose pushed on over the end works . You can leave it there cut a little short so that a normal screwdriver can be used .

Poulan and Husqvarna uses the larger of the two Splinted tools.

You can buy the complete set online. Throw in a couple of small flat tip screw drivers and make one to fit newer Echo carbs and you can adjust about 98% of the carbs found on small engines today.

Many do not know that a dealer can actually face fines and prison time for selling or even loaning small engine carb specialty tools to someone not certified to use them.

Hey! Mule Meat is right!

Every time I order a tool for those carburetors-and they change the screws pretty often- the distribuitor I order from includes a warning
that our shop could be fined if we car caught by the EPA selling those tools to the public.

Somehow, though, it is still O.K. to order those tools off Ebay. That is where I got my last ones. There are at least 9 different ones,
not counting the 'plug removers' and 'cap removers'.

I still don't have the tool for some of the Chinese copies of OEM carburetors.

I am not supposed to work on any of those carburetors that have been modified with a Dremel tool either. . . . The threat of another fine.

The thing with buying the tools online, is a lot of them made in China do not fit the carb screws.

I have had a Paxco 10 piece set for many years and haven't ran into a carb yet they will not fit.
