Went to a cheap auction today just south of Rochester MN. It was all red equipment and kinda on rough side. Heres the prices

1466 Black stripe Did not run But had nice fenders and near new rubber $1750.00

686 Diesel Ran Looked rough $1475.00

450 Diesel Stuck but had factory WFE $600.00 I bid it to 500.00 but thats all I could affford

54 Super H with Wide Front Ran $1250.00

I belive all tractor went for parts to a local parts yard or thats what I was told the young man buying everthing does. He also bought 75% of the machinary and a combine or 2. Sad to see these machines parted.... If I only had money....

That's too bad that they are going to be junked. I once went to an auction where a bought a 1949 John Deere A. There was lots of JD and Allis Tractors and implements for sale there and almost all of them went to a scrap iron man. I saved my John Deere A from the scrap man. I'm 14 so my Dad did the bidding on the tractor and my Dad was bidding against the scrap man. There was also a JD 50 there, I don't know who got it, but it had new rear tires, ran excellent and it only sold for $1400. Me and my Dad were loading my tractor and it was sad to see the scrap man torching all his tractors and impements in pieces to load it all. :( That was a very big auction and I bet he probably bought about 80% of that auction. Me and my Dad go to other auctions and that "scrap man" buys up most of the tractors, trucks, cars, anything made of metal.

Hi, Andy: Gee, that is a sad story about the scrap man. I don't know if I could stand to watch it. It's one thing for an old tractor to go to a salvage yard and be stripped for parts to keep others going. But, to watch one get cut up to go into the metal shredder - whew! That would be tough. mike durhan

I live about 40 miles south of Rochester and didn't see an sale bill on that auction. I get emails from all the local auction companys on upcoming auctions in a 100 mile radius. Maybe that was the problem they didn't advertise it. If I was there that SH and 686 would have went for more than that.

It was very sad to see because almost all of those tractors were complete and had very nice metal on them. I think he also got a bunch of IH Trucks.

Yeah...I believe you're from the Preston area...Hows things over there? Durnit...My tongue is still on the floor regarding that 14. I guess I wont be digging up any Mason jars for a while, ha-ha...Later ...Randy

PARTS, not scrap. Read the post guys! The only torching on these tractors will be to heat up stuck bolts.

These tractors are being torn down so that many others may continue to run. Is that not a noble sacrifice?

There was something major wrong with each of those tractors, and there comes a time when the cost to repair just ain't worth it no matter how you look at it. It's not like these tractors were in primo condition... Heck two of them didn't run at all.
