Check oil

I've been around almost every type of machine except a farmall tractor. I've got a "57" 230 and I don't see a dip stick or any place to put the oil in. I guess that I'm just an idiot but there is what looks to be a drain cock on the left side of the oil pan with what looks like a grease fitting right below it.
Something tells me this has potential

Open top petcock and add oil until it starts to come out. Open bottom petcock and no oil comes out you say,(I screwed up, Hope it has enough oil that it didnt take out a bearing) Like pulling the dip stick and not finding any oil on it.

I'm not the veteran that many people here are, but some of the older tractors don't have a dipstick. Instead on one side of the drain pain you'll find two bolt holes, these are the high and low oil levels.

I know you're thinking, - what in the world is this guy doing with a tractor?
I have equipment out the ying yang but I'm just not familiar with this tractor.

OIl fill is just forward of the distributor, sort of a wing nut looking thing. To check the oil the others have told you how to do that

my guess is that the grease fitting looking thing was a petcock just like the one above it and at some point the "wings " have been broken off.these petocks on the side of the oilpan are where you check the oil level.

The 140 Farmall has a similar engine. It has a dipstick. Binder Books in Oregon has manuals for your tractor. Get one.

Did not think that at all. That question is ask a lot by people that have not been around the old Farmalls. My Granddad was a Farmall man all the way and he did check the oil every morning before starting his tractor. Dad and Grandpa traded field help while I was growing up and I was up and around them any morning I did not have to go to school.
