Westerners have known from the beginning of human habitation (15000 years ago or so) that water is fickle. I wish the Southern states some refreshing water. The dependence in the West is usually accounted for by hauling water, Trick Tanks, and moving cattle to stay with supplies. That can't happen where there is no history or contingency. Global warming manifests itself with variability and bizarre weather, from ocean current changes. The one degree difference will not make us feel different. JimN

In my case and a lot of others the problem so far is not lack of drinking water for cattle, but lack of rain for grass and hay crop.

The governor of SC is calling for homes to conserve water. Some municipalities have outlawed lawn watering and car washing.

Growing up in Northern California I have seen years that make one wonder if there ever was any water in the creeks and then turn around the next year and spend hours sand bagging against the floods. Just stick around it will turn around and you will be cussing the water again.

We live in extreme SW NC about 8 miles from Tennessee and a mile north of Georgia and we have not had any apprecible rain in over four months. A new developement started just on the other side of the mountain from us and already they are having dry wells (just over a year old). Springs have dried up and streams are gone. Only had to cut grass three times this year. 60 foot trees lost their leaves at the top last month, just dried up. Atlanta, 100 miles south is about out of water for four million people.

So Cal got just two inches of rain last year. Normal is 15...

Just wondering- has anybody gone out on the lake bottom on foot to find their lost anchors and fishing poles? Looks like a great time to do it...

Looks like a good time for some maintenance on the docks and other structures.
Walt is right, here in the west it is a crap shoot every year. Klamath Lake in south central Oregon is at a 10 year low right now and boaters are getting stranded and have to be rescued by the sherrif's patrol.
Hope things return to normal real quick for you folks wherever this drought is hitting.

and this is a surprise to you? The dam lakes are always down, and the only reason anybody does a story on it is because all the rich northerners are complaining about it. Ive havent seen Hartwell at full pool for nearly 20 years, and Greenwood, well its nothing morethan a sewage dump anyways. Bowen is the same way as Hartwell, but, they cover it on the news because the richer society doent own much of it.
