Check. Valve removal and maintenance

(quoted from post at 23:45:04 06/27/15) Any help on removing and cleaning the tranny Check valve?
Thanks.
do not know of a transmission check valve. Of what do you speak??

Sorry. I'm new at this. It's a 1949 8N. The check valve is in the reservoir below the seat and the controls are for raising and lowering the rear blade. The fluid needed changing and I was told to clean the check valve because the blade doesn't want to stay where I set it.

Tom........unless you've arms like a chimpanzee, you'll haffta remove the 6-in round dipstick plate. You'll haffta make a "custom" wrench outta 11/16 ring spanner. Cut the useless open-end off'n the handle and then cut about 1/4-3/8" notch thru the RING gear so it will fit over the pressure relief valve stem. Otherwize you will haffta drain 5-gals of hydro-tranny oil so you can drop the BIG flat hydraulic pump plate. The corner pressure port does NOT drain the tranny oil. Me? First thing I'd due, it check the tightness of the hytrol-lever CORK friction plate. It should be intuitively obvious how to tighten the hytrol-lever on the CORK friction disc. BTW.......there is NO REPAIR to the hydraulic pressure relief valve, repair is by replacement only. You do know the little handle under yer right kneesie is NOT a "flush" handle, don't you? UP fer draft control (plowing), HORIZONTAL fer position control (so it don't DRIFT DOWN) .......HTH, Dell

The check valve is part of the relief valve, see figure fo153 exploded view of 8n hydraulic pump.

that said, I have to ask if you are sure you have an 8n? 4 speed trans? 9n and 2n do not have position control.

paragraph 165 talks about the check valve.

We all were new at this and I for one am learning something new about these machines every day.

(quoted from post at 06:31:18 06/29/15) Must have gotten screwed on the manual. Stops at paragraph 132, picks up again at para 211.

Mine is the I&T FO-4 service manual. 150 pages. paragraph 175 is the last one.

I also have a FO-4 that is older and only has 39 pages but still has the info on the check valve.
