Checking and changing the oil

How do I check the oil level and then add/change the oil. And change filter? 1948 d. If you have a picture or diagram ,that might help me more . Thank you'all ahead of time. The oil Gage maybe works, the glass lends on the Gage is not broken. And the Gage moves, ,,,,but closer to zero ,,,,should the Gage hold closer to the middle of the psi values as opposed to too far left (0). Or too far right?
Thanks again,Mark

Should have around 20 psi of oil pressure with engine running at a pretty high RPM. There should be two pipe plugs on the side of the oil pan that are used to check oil levels. Remove the top plug and fill with oil until it starts to run out the hole. The oil fill port is up on top near the magneto (or distributor). There are 2 drain plugs that you need to remove to change the oil, one on the bottom of the oil pan and one on the bottom of the clutch housing. The clutch runs in oil from the engine.

Thanks to you c.amick and t.rails back ...........if you'all read this ......first thanks And then how about oil weight? And Ok , then if I drain the oil,,,,how much to refill. I know when it begins to come out the top ,,but about how many quarts.?

If you are planning on using it this winter, I would use a multigrade 10w-40 oil. If you only use it in the summer you could go with straight 30 weight or multigrade. I don't know for sure how many quarts it takes. I would guess between 5 and 6. I'm sure someone else on here will tell us.
