I used aircraft paint stripper on a truck cab and I am wondering what, if anything, should the metal be treated with before it is primered to insure a good paint job.

You will need to scrub the metal well to remove and residue of the stripper and then wipe it down with an automotive grease and wax remover from your local auto paint store. If you are not going to paint right away you'll probably see some flash rust. To prevent this, as soon as you have the metal dry treat the metal with Picklex 20 which prevents rust.

You will need to go over the metal with a good sander, maybe 180 grit paper. A DA. The paint comes off but there is a lot of residue left.
After sanding treat the metal with a product called "metal prep" is acidic,. Then apply your epoxy primer. Then take a close look at the surface. You will most likely see scratches, dings and pinholes and other irregularities. So out comes the primer surfacer and some block sanding to get it all just so fine.
Great paint jobs are the result of painstaking prep.I primed and block sanded the hood on my SMTA no less than 5 times. Of course the last two were not an overall prime and sand. Just spot filling.

Wash it off, sand with 180 grit, fix the dings with body filler, apply epoxy, followed by sandable surfacer, as necessary to get a smooth finish.

You buy it direct from the mfr or from other outlets. I buy mine from Len Stuart's Autobodystore.com. His price plus shipping was less than direct from the mfr.
