cherry picker

I use mine a lot for loading and unloading stuff. I thought I would pass on the single biggest
improvement I think you can make to a lift. Mine was leaking and I bought an air powered cylinder for
it. I think it came from HF,might have been Northern Hyd. Anyway,I put it on and it is great for the
everything I have needed it for,it still has the manual pump on it but I have never used it. I just
hook up the air and lift away. I did put three wheels on the back side of it a few weeks ago so I
can tip it on its end to save floor space in the shop. The problem I have with that is, my hoist is a
massive 2.5 ton that I picked up for $30.00(he had it along his shop for sale, but it really could
not be seen from the street)it is so heavy I need help to tip it over!

The legs fold up on mine. The mast drops all the way down after you slide it in. The whole thing takes up about a foot and a half by three feet of floor space when it's folded.

I picked up a medical lift, it looks like small cherry picker. It's battery powered, two small 12 volt battery's, a 300lb capacity. The front legs adjust narrow enough to fit between the front wheels of my riding mower, it has four casters and rolls easily, and fits thru a 30 inch door. Really handy for lifting and moving stuff.

Bought mine before they sold foldable ones so I modified it for tight storage and other uses. In one setup the vertical post can be laid back. The hyd arm and chain anchors on the legs can pull bent frames and subframes. Looks and works the same as store bought frame straightener costing thousands.

I'm glad it works for you, but I'm very surprised it has enough power to lift much of anything. You don't say what size of air cylinder you got, but as a comparison of square inches on the cyl piston, at, let's say, 150# air to 2000# hydraulic, you see it takes a much bigger cyl to do the same work.

I think he means Pne hyd pump.

Oh yea, I see...... the OP still has the hydraulic cylinder on his lift, just an air operated hydraulic pump. Those are awesome units. We had those at work on our hydraulic lift tables. An oiler in the air line to run them, an they would last for years.

If you are talking about an engine hoist. No way would I use or trust an off the self air cylinder on one. Especially one from Harbor Freight.

If I had to go with a powered jack for one. I would use an electric trailer jack.

I find the 8 ton air over hydraulic works fine and still has the hand pump built in

When did an engine lift become a cherty picker? A cherry picker used to be for at least fifteen feet in the air like log loaders.

Cherry picker really threw me also. Are you guys really talking about an engine hoist?

I always knew a cherry picker to be a man boom lift.

If you search google images for "cherry picker", you will see over a hundred images of a cherry picker. Most of them have at least two booms with a "man cage" on the end. Some of the high lifters have three booms on them. They are mounted on their own rolling chassis or mounted on a work truck.

But surprisingly out of a hundred pictures there were actually two pictures of an engine hoist.

I always affiliated it with the saying "cherry picking" as to take the nicest ones from off the top.
