Cherry picker

Got a new engine lift - it worked fine pulling out a v8 and trans but I cant imagine picking up 2 ton anyone ever picked up that much weight ?

If it is like mine, and most all the ones I've ever seen, it is only rated for 2 tons when the arm is retracted all the way. That is when the lever (the lift arm) is the shortest.

Don't try to lift max load when the arm is extended. You should have markings at each position listing the max lift at that extension.

And never ever extend the arm further out than the front wheels!

If everything was properly designed, and all the welds are good, the pressure relief valve in the jack will bypass before something breaks. Two big 'IFs'!

Most CP have an old head on the back base for just a little counter balance(mine is a Farmall 450) The best addition I made to mine was an air powered ram from Northern Tool, or Harbor Freight(who has the best price when you buy one)

We needed one for our truck shop at the power company, but couldn't find one that looked strong enough for our use. My buddy and I built one out of 4 3/16 wall for the main frame and upright. Braced it with 2x4 box tube, and made the lift arm out of 2x4 box tube. We also made a low mount for the arm on the upright for pulling van engines. Used a real good high lift hydraulic jack, but don't remember the tonnage.
To test it, we rolled it up to the back of our fully loaded one ton shop truck(welder, torches, air compressor, nut and bolt cabinets, jerry cans of fluids, etc.) hooked it to the trailer hitch, and lifted the rear wheels off the ground.

We use a loader tractor or telhandler depending on the weight of the engine. A big Caterpilar like the 3406 or a 3408 would get the telehandler .The V-8 car engine or a smaller diesel like the DT-436or so we would probably use the loader on unless we already had the other running right then.

I'm not going to press my luck, but I've used mine to hold up the front half when I split my Oliver Super 55 and 1365. We lifted a V6 Ford engine out with it. I don't want to do something foolish and ruin it so it's not here when I need it.

My homemade cherry picker. I put a tractor behind it-haha

Mine is the 1,000# model but they had a 2,000# as well when I bought mine. Did not need that big or heavy. The 1,00# one has 3 settings for different weights but the beam has 3 holes for the different weight settings and the one for the shortest distance back that I have never used is the one for the highest weight setting, extended it is only 500# but that was plenty for me. Have not used the middle setting of 750# or short setting for 1,000#. I know when I bought mine several years ago The 2,000# bole did have the 3 weight holes and it was painted on side what the weight setting for each was.

I lifted the back end of Muir hill 101 with loaded tires and wheels weights clear off the ground with my 2000 pound cherry picker with a ten ton hydraulic Jack I wouldnt trust it for very long but it did it
