Chevy 2500 can't get it out of gear

Chevy 2500, year 2000, 5 speed manual transmission. Locked in 4th gear, Clutch goes all the way to the floor, no resistance. Crank starter, truck tries to lunge ahead. No amount of shoving the stick will lift it up to neutral. Shifting 4 wheel drive L-N-H does nothing. Slave cylinder stuck? What am I going to have to do to get it into neutral?

jack up a rear wheel to relieve the pressure . it should shift to neutral. then look into the clutch problem

Rustred has it. If it is on a hill be careful not to let it roll off the jack. If it has a locable differential, it must be unlocked. If lifting it does nothing the top may need to come off. A failed clutch master (or slave cylinder) is likely the clutch issue. If it has not been operated for years, it could be rusted shifter rails. Jim

Is there fluid in the master cylinder?

Are you in the rust belt? Maybe the line has rusted tru or a rubber line has ruptured or the slave cylinder has blown out seals.

thinking back it's been at least 4 years since it ran. Can't believe time went that fast.

Just like brakes, hydraulic clutches will leak the fluid out if not used.

Top up the fluid, see if the pedal will pump up. Some (rare) times letting it sit overnight will get enough of the air out to get some motion going. But if there is still no resistance, it will have to be blead. If any leaks, that will have to be repaired.

The transmission is either in a bund because the clutch won't release, or the shift rails are dry and rusty.

If it has to be bled, get a clean pump oil can fill it with proper fluid and with a rubber hose atached to it and the bleader port bleed from the slave cylender to the resivor. It is the easiest way.
