Chevy knee/ lever shocks

These are on my 47 1/2 ton that I"m working on. The truck has knee or lever action type shocks. I have found a place in NY that rebuilds them for around $200 bucks a pop. Others want more plus $75 core. I can just see draging them into a GM dealer these days. So far I have been unable to locate a rebuild kit. Even if I did I"m not sure I would want to take one apart. There has to be some killer spring in there ready to take part of your head off. Thinking of taking them to a machine shop if I can find rebuild kits. Any of you have experence with knee action shocks?

Your best bet is to go with the NY shop. The reason there are no kits is because of demand. I would bet the NY shop has everything special built for THEM.

I have no experience with them, both of my old Chevys are 3800 1 tons. But I"ve seen them advertised in Jim Carter"s catalog, I think it is online. If you are working on it just to drive it, I think you can get a kit with the mounts to put tube type shocks on it.
