Chisel holder

Please don't judge my lack of welding skills and using the wrong rod. My boy block wall put together with masonry adhesive. I read where you start at one end with a slim chisel and work your way to the other end leave something behind to pry with.

Going to start with a 16 oz hammer and work up to a 12 pound sledge. One way or another, the corner of the wall has to come down. Hopefully we can reuse the block.

The last thing I want to do is get my hand between a hammer and the block.

The half inch bolt will hold the chisel.

Today was in the 60s and raining. Welding helmet fogged up. I used heat gun and warmed up the helmet. How do you keep your helmet defrosted?

I'm going to my boy's this weekend and see how well my chisel holder works. I went to Menards and HF. Neither had a chisel holder. So what do I have to lose making my own out of materials I already have?

I plan to let my boy swing the sledge hammer while my hand holding the chisel is over a foot away. In the past I too would use visegrips.

I'm 70. Hands still work. I want to keep them that way. I'll post before and after pics. Going there Saturday for grandson's 8th birthday party.

Me too, however I'm the one with the hammer.
I like the way my hands work. I can't imagine what damage a 12 pound sledge can do to my hand.

If i may suggest, weld a crow bar to a large
pair of vice grips. I've got several modified vice grips
used for different jobs. Some with handle holds, hooks and
such. VICEGRIPS, one of the best tools ever made.
Good luck with your project Sir.

Sir George. I will pass judgment when you post pictures of the wall disassembled. You better do it rite without breaking any blocks, or you will be in deep DoDo.

You can also try this. Harbor freight air chisels on a regulator so you can turn the air up and down. Get that really wide thin blade. I have cleaned many hundreds of used bricks by just giving a little bruuupp and cement just pops off. You don't need a lot of air power when just a little rattle will do.

Don't be surprised to find 2 vertical plastic pins in the ones below the top course. The pins help keep the course straight and helps hold the geo grind in place on a tall wall. Most walls that I worked on only had the top course glued down. Good Luck.

Or your Dad.
He got a couple good hits on the drift and then the
sledge Hamer made contact with my knuckle. Oh
well, it's just a flesh wound on my left hand.

I just use my Craftsman chisel holders. I've had them for years, don't remember buying them. I thought ther were adjustable box end wrenches until I saw them advertised as chisel holders.
