chisel plow uneaven meadow

This property has an old peat meadow that has had the spruce trees cut out in the peat with a chain saw. Left divots all over, big ones so its really rough. I grows good slough hay but its rough. I have only a few implements and one is a 3ph spring tool haroow like chisel plow. Was thinking next summer in the dry weather, to run that over lots and break it up a bit. I wonder if that will help level it as it gouges, so maybe it can be disked a more? I dont have a plow or know anyone. Its really tough surface now, a big break disk wont touch it without days of passes.

Chisel plow would be a great thing as long as the roots are cleared. You might be able to pull through small ones, but anything substantial will break equipment. The compaction from not being worked yearly will rip apart with chisel plows. I would go shallow first and very slow, then drop a little deeper on the second pass just to see how it goes.

Ive bin there. I made the mistake of digging out spruce stumps(small pasture spruce in a old field 4 to 8 inches).If you can stand to leave them a couple of years they will rot. The ones I missed I plowed right through them. Had to pick some roots. ED

Yeah, I was thinking of just starting with a surface scratch for some hours to see what was coming loose. Then if I was getting some penetration overall I was going to drop it a bit. Its going to be a fun project it sounds like... AS LONG AS IT DRIES OUT!!! . pretty let land most of the time.

I would give it a try with what you've got and see what happens. I have my doubts. Somewhat depends on just exactly what you mean by "chisel plow". If it's what I think it is, it doesn't have coulters. Without coulters I think you're going to have a problem with root matter wrapping around the standards. Also with the stumps which, even though they're cut off at ground level, are still there just waiting for you.
