Chisel plow ?

Is it OK to run 3 twisted points on a rigid shank chisel plow? Been doing some searching and reading up on chisel plow points and on some other forums a few people commented that it isn't advisable to run 3 or 4 inch twisted points on rigid shanks due to them not having the give or flex of a spring loaded shank. There's a nine shank rigid shank that I'm looking at getting for my 1086 but I would like to run the twisted point for corn ground and 2 inch spikes on bean stubble.
Thanks for any information or opinions

I would look at spring mounted shanks and not bother with rigid shanks on a chisel plow. Then I also would not bother with changing the teeth from corn to bean ground. To much work and the bolts are enough work to get on and off with just changing when wore out or when turning over. As for the twisted 3 inch shovels I would not use the curved ones if you have heavy ground it tends to make balls of the dirt if it is a bit wet like fall tillage tends to be. This year here you would be glad if you got any fall tillage done since it is so wet. I think I'm going to probably just disc ground with a packer behind the disc for spring planting next spring to get the ruts filled back in or else use the field cultivator for filling and the disc to get dirt with packer still behind the disk.

we have rocks..

We dont have rigid shanks.

Took me a moment to understand the question, as really never seen a ridged shank machine here.

What's your soil like? do you have rocks, shallow soil with stone ledge under it? Around here is western Illinois most everybody ran rigid shanks with twisted shovels to cover more trash on everything from black gumbo to sandy ground. 1086 ought to handle 9 shanks pretty easy. You could take 2 off but then you would barely take out tractor tracks.

With 2 inch shanks you could pull 9 with a 1086 here most of the time. I wouldnt try a coulter rig with twisted shovels tho. Different ground pulls different, maybe it works there.

I run a 7 shank soil saver behind a 2wd 145 hp tractor. In the wrong conditions that can spin out, but mostly a good match.

9 shank works on the 210hp front wheel assist real nice.
