Choke Rod question

Hi all! I've got a quick question. On my '49 8N, the spring on the carb keeps the choke rod in the normal open position like normal. To use the choke, I pull the rod, but spring tension is always on it. I've seen some videos and it looks like the choke is supposed to stay put to wherever you position the rod. On mine you have to continuously hold the rod to use the choke, then when you let go, it springs back to open position.

It's working as designed. The spring keeps the choke open. If you need to keep the choke closed while the tractor is running, you have other problems.

Thnx for the info! Holding it closed for a few seconds because it was 30 degrees the other day and it does not live in a garage.
