most make the top cut first simply because the bottom cut is easier with the posts still attached to the rest of the body with the actual top removed, that being said, doing a chop is a job best left to a master body man, its much harder than it looks, look at your body as the posts go up to the top they also lean inward and toward the middle of the vehicle, when you cut 2 or 4 inches or whatever out of all the posts the top will not fit back on the supporting posts, they must all be modified, also when you modify the posts you then have to modify the doors to fit in the new openings, not to mention the rear window, its very time consuming and difficult
 
How I do it is cut the pillars in the center, one cut only, in the rear section by the back window, the cut is different depending on what car or truck. On a pickup the roof needs one cut also, will be adding metal to lengthen, to line up pillars. On a 2 dr car the roof will need 2 cuts to lengthen the roof,one in the front door area, and one behind the B pillar.
