Chopped barley silage last week

I made two 7x150 ft silage bags of direct cut barley. It was harvested in the dough stage using a mower bar head on my model 12 John Deere chopper. Pulling it is the 1968 4020 dad bought new and some of the 122 Chuck Wagons we own.

What is the feed quality of chopped barley ?
It feeds close to corn silage but has less energy. Makes a good beef cow or dry cow and heifer feed for a dairy. When we farmed in MD sometimes we fed it to the dairy herd if short on corn silage.

Just wow, awesome job. Awesome pics.

How much barley did you drill in, no till? Or worked in?
Fertilize it both last fall and this spring?

Thanks I'm curious at using something like this to fill in, then could double crop soybeans after it. Double crop beans are going on here now.
Thank you. GG Wes

We planted 2 1/2 bu per acre and spread 200# of potash before notilling. For my area of WI we planted the very end of Aug. When we farmed in MD we planted fall barley Sept 15 to Oct 20. Mine was planted on fields we had combines rye. I left about an acre to combine for seed and expect it will be ready the end of this week. The beans I planted right after harvest you can see the rows already. Tom

Have you ever tried spring barley?
I'm sure the Barley south in SW Mo is fall barely too.
Hope you have a great day. GG Wes

How many acres went into each bag? Looks nice.
