CIH information needed

Looking at a 1660, I see some listed with both sets of concaves and grates. Some are listed with standard rotors and others with specialty rotors. Can someone decipher all this into what is necessary for man wishing to harvest corn, beans and a little wheat. Thanks, Erik

Also, what would you recommend to look at on these machines? Friend of mine mentioned the gearbox input shaft where it comes off the motor. Any other particulars?

I believe you may have asked about combines the other week and I piped up about red ones. I have had a massey and two green walker ones before. You couldn"t pull my CIH 2188 away from me if you tried. You don"t have to have the specialty rotor and everything else, but I know my specialty rotor and no more walkers lets me go through green stemmed beans and the like that I could never even dream of going through before. I"ll never go back to a green walker machine. I now barely make any adjustments from going from beans to corn and it cleans almost too good. Parts are easy to get. Shoup"s has many, many of the normal wear parts and do you have a dealer close by?

For beans and corn I think you want the bar grates but if they don't come with the machine like they usually do there are plenty of them available at the bone yards, etc. I don't do corn, but beans and wheat work beautifully with my '89 1620. I want the wheat straw chopped as much as possible so I leave the bar grates in even though I have a set of the slotted ones. Here in Wisconsin there are plenty of parts available if you want to change something. Even for 14/1620's. I have the standard rotor and no problems. The guy I bought it from was doing corn at the time and it was as clean as I've ever seen. I would suggest the lowest hour machine you can find and the newest.

Good luck!

3 dealers within 25 miles. The price of the green machines is the issue. I found several lower hour CIH machines for a fair price. Need to go take look this weekend.

Green walker machines are good machines if the price is that much different. In my opinion a rotor is easier to run and will run through many different conditions. We don't have to have specialty rotors, reversers and such to get the crops in, but it may make for a better, quicker and maybe safer harvest. My 2 cents.
