Circlip removal tool

I have an Alice chalmers backhoe, with some leaky cylinders. There are 1 1/5 or larger pins with outside two hole clips on them. I cant get them off for nothing. Anyone have a source for a set of really heavy duty outside removal pliers?

Are the holes reasonably easy to access ?
If they are two small split rings can be threaded through to give you something to work with . I did this with hydraulic cylinders on a Ferguson loader , worked very well .

Industrial supply stores, tool trucks (Snap-on, Mac, etc.), McMaster Carr, Grainger, MSC are some. Many places (auto parts stores like NAPA or truck parts stores) can order them for you, but few will have the larger sizes on the shelf. And eBay and Amazon of course.

What I do on tough ones is spray them with penetrating oil, then take a 1/4 pin punch and rotate them, in the direction to loosen them. Then use a good snap ring pliers.

Usually the easiest fix is to tear the clip all to H to get it out and then get you a new one when putting it back together. There never seems to be enough meat on those clips to use a snap ring tool. They go in easier than coming out. Definitely something that should be un-invented.

Not to steal this post but I probably have a half dozen or more pairs of snap ring pliers. Non of them are that good.
So my question is what brands have you guys used that work successfully on any type of snap ring?

rfazio,

Drill a hole on end end, use a snap ring pliers to get the ring out.

Sometime you got to think out of the box

If you can find a set of Hi-Tech brand pliers you will NOT be disapointed.
Not as well known as some of the fancy, big name brands like Snap-on or Mac but equal or better in quality.
I've had the small ones for years but a couple of years ago needed a larger set.
I found the large ones on Craigslist in Idaho using Searchtempest.
Paid $35 + $7 flat rate box shipping.
They work for inside and outside snap rings.
They have changeable tips or you can easily make your own tips out of allen wrenches.
