Cleaning and Prep for Engine Paint

I need some help with how to prep the engine, transmission etc for paint.

The tractor was painted about 15 years ago but wasn't prepped well - some of the old paint is peeling in various locations.

Sheet metal is no problem but how do I get the engine etc clean and then how do I prep it to paint?

I would take a pressure washer (or a wire wheel) to it to get off the loose stuff. The key is to get anything loose off because if you don't and it peels later on, it will take your paint with it. Make sure the thing is degreased before painting. I would rough up the surface somewhat so that the paint will adhere better. Other than that, follow the directions that go with the paint.

Use a good wax/grease remover such as "Prep Kleen"-same stuff they use in auto body shops before painting cars.

PK removes microscopic grease contaminates that normal grease removers leave behind.
