cleaning out herbicide barrel

have a nice plastic barrel that contained glyphosate 4 ( generic round up) 3 years ago I have kept shedded. Would it be safe to wash it out (soap and water) and use it for syrup for cattle feed? some farmers here say sure others say no way. thoughts? what is toxicity of glypho to humans/animals??

There's lots of plastic barrels out there so why take the risk or waste the time?? Bring it to your local hazardous waste disposal site and be done with it.

Let me ask you if you would be asking this if that barrel had had salt in it?
I looked up the LD50 factor for salt and glyphosate.
glyphosate is 5600 mg/kg Salt is 3000 mg/kg.
That makes salt nearly twice as toxic as roundup.
IE, it takes 5600 milligrams of roundup per kilogram of body weight to kill 50% of test animals. That is lethal dose (LD) It takes 3000 milligrams of salt per kilogram of body weight to kill 50%.>Caffeine LD50 is 200mg/kg and aspirin is 1240 mg/kg, both mush more toxic than salt or roundup.
NOTE!I am not suggestion you use that barrel. I was just interested if you would have ask that question if it had salt which is nearly twice as toxic as roundup.

No problem , Roundup ia not hazardous . Years ago we were short on straw & wanted to bale neighbor's but he had just sprayed Roundup on the field . We made some calls & were told cattle could drink it & not be hurt .

Hey the plastic is probably more dangerous than the round up. I'd say go for it, and by the way the fertilizer that we use on the grass is more hazardous than the round up.

Be sure to at least triple rinse it. That is the law. I saw out the top leaving about one inch around the inside of the rim . Then I cut out a piece of plywood that will fit in therim on the top and nail on a short piece of wood to serve as a handle. Makes a great dry storage barrel. I store my planter units in one of them. They never rust that way even in an unheated barn.Store tools in another at a remote farm. Just looks like an old empty barrel that way.

Clean,plastic barrels also make excellent dog houses. I laid mine in a wooden craddle made of 2 x 4s. You can put a piece of plywood over the top to serve as a resting/sunning platform. Cut about half of the top out to make an opening. An old piece of garden hose, slit,protects the cut edges. I fill mine with straw--prairie hay works well too. They hold up very well.

No, I probably would not eat nor drink out of the barrel. I also don"t graze with them, eat hay, eat out of the feed bunk, won"t eat the molasses I am going to put into the barrel, eat cattle feed, or drink out of the same stock tank or pond they do. They are animals. It is my responsiblity to keep them as safe as I can. It is my responsibility to my family to do that as economically as I can. So that is why I asked here and got answers that were helpful, excluding the two from your little duo. I do thank you for sharing your intellect, NONE the LESS.
