Clues to year made............

My old 661D has the serial number partially eaten by battery acid, and I am wondering where the next best clue would be as to the year it was made.

The engine is from 1971 according to the casting numbers, so what to look for somewhere else?

Thanks.

hyd cover.. axle trumpets.. etc.

in the end.. you know it's gonna be 59-62 if it was diesel from the factory.. otherwise 58-62 if it started as a gasser..

Yeah, it's just that I'm a 58 model myself, and the engine casting numbers put's it 1 day before my 13th birthday in 1971, so for some reason this tractor and I share a common bond.

I'm guessing it was a diesel from the git go, the wiring to the manifold heater switch and solenoid all look original, and there's the 661D on the starter housing.

Is it possible the engine is still a 144? Were they still making them in 71? And if it is a bigger one, is there any way to tell about that?

Soooooooo many questions. :~)

Look for date codes. Places to look:
Hydraulic top cover
Engine block, left side
Trans casing, just below the running board
Rear end casing, right side
Axle trumpets, forward facing surface.

Date codes typically consist of letters and digits. jot down what you see and where you see it. Post back here. Make careful note of whether or not some of the letters are backwards or upside down. that can be significant.
