Hello! I am trying to help the farmer across the street (I live in VT and am surrounded by farms) find parts for a 633 International Harvester (I don't even see this one listed in the parts area). He needs a clutch (just finished putting a head gasket on it). He still uses it daily to clean out his horse barn. The S/N is D030400D005131 From what I can tell there are three possible clutches ... all double ... two made by LUK and one made by Fichtel and Sachs. Can you tell from the serial number which we have? Local dealer is useless ... I found parts he couldn't and I don't know anything about tractors (I am a machinist by trade .. but since moving to VT about 10 years ago, I can say I have worked dozens of pieces of farm equipment ... learning on the fly). E-mailed the factory and they would not help.

Thanks!

Mike

WOW, i been around IH a long time, never seen that number, unless it was made in the UK,or Australia and its maybe the same as another number we use here in the USA. Most USA built tractors have a Rockford brand clutch! How many horsepower is it about ??

Yes ... it was made in Europe .... I think Holland? It actually usually comes up under Case / International Harvester

I think he said it is 65 HP ... 3 cylinder diesel.

I have been pretty lucky at finding parts for it ... like I said, just put a cylinder head gasket in it two weeks ago.

It was built from 1975 to 1985

Thanks!

Hello zero1 welcome to YT! Click on the link, find the
parts you are looking for and web search the numbers.
I did not look around in it at all. Some part numbers
may not be in there. At one point IH was removing
parts they no longer serviced. Let us know if you have
troubles or need anything else.

Thanks ... that is a much clearer picture of the same information I found.

Problem ... there is three clutches shown.

From my serial number, is there any way of telling which one I have?

I tried the factory (same site you pointed me to) but they said to go to the local dealer ... again, they are just not very helpful.

He still uses the tractor every day ... actually several times a day ... typical farmer, he is driving my my place with a load of SH#T from cleaning out the barn and I am just getting my first cup of coffee.

I was hoping to get all the parts together before we split it to keep his down time to a minimum.

Thanks again for the link .... much clearer than the one I found.

(quoted from post at 09:18:49 03/31/22) For whatever help it is, I believe the 633 was made in Neus, Germany.

I am pretty sure you are correct now that I think about it. I think it was his Massey mower that was made in Holland.

He also has a Holder that was made in Germany if I remember correctly.

I had no idea so much equipment was made in other countries.

I worked for JD back in the early 80's. I know back then we were getting engines from off shore.

Looks like even back then many companies had items made outside the USA.

Thanks!

Mike

The 633 is a Neuss, Germany, built tractor. We had one on our farm 30 years ago.
In The Netherlands and in Germany the 633 is far from rare and many are still in use; dealers (more than a dozen in our country alone) are still supporting the 633 I believe.
Being Dutch and living in The Netherlands, I might be able to help you some.
Reply here or send me a PM through this web site.

You say it is a 2 stage clutch I thought I understood. If so might look at some of the ford or Fergie dealers for some parts they were big on those 2 stage clutches. If just a single stage clutch like most might look at some other model like the 454 for one. They had a 3cylinder if that matters in about 40-50 HP. Clutch shop should be able to come up with parts if you took the old ones in for them to see.

Unfortunately you picked one of the most uncommon models in the USA.

Often times multiple clutches were used to keep up with production. For example, Farmall letter series tractor clutches were supplied by Rockford and Auburn clutch companies. If you were replacing the clutch and pressure plate it didn't matter which one you ordered because they both fit the same flywheel. The only time it mattered was when you were replacing just the disc, which in this day and age, makes no sense. "While you're in there, may as well..."

Hi, as Hendrik say the IH 633 were made in Neuss Germany. There were several here in Canada at one time especially in the Province of Quebec with mostly a French speaking population as the manuals were
available in German, French and English and probably Dutch. It has a D-179 Neuss Diesel engine the same as 454, 464, 484, 495 but the fuel pump was turned up to about 50HP.
They could have either a single or double clutch and I am guessing you can tell the difference by the clutch pedal operation, usually a double clutch, pushing the clutch half way down stops the transmission
and all the way to the foot rest stops both transmission and PTO and you have to push clutch all the way to foot rest to engage PTO. If you do not have to use the clutch to engage the PTO then it has a single
clutch and a hydraulic clutch pack to engage the PTO.
I am guessing since you are in VT that the tractor was probably brought south from Quebec, Canada as there are no duties on used agricultural equipment.

Link to download of German/English/French parts manual but the index is in German you just have to scroll through until you find the section you are looking for.

You guys are awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!

A dealer finally got back to me.

Not sure if he is right but or not but they are saying this tractor was not sold in the USA.

It seems that since we are only an hour from the Canadian boarder, some were purchased there and brought over.

They said they can get "some" of the parts for two of the the three clutches used.

They could not tell me which one was used by the serial number ... I will need to split the tractor and find out.

Thanks for the link to the manual !!!!!! This will make my life much easier at I have worked on it several time.

I really appreciate all the help with this !!!!

Just FYI ... I am getting tired of working in snow and cold. After taking 10 years to build the house, I am finally working on the shop. If you need a good laugh, my wife put some videos on YouTube: You guys are awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!! ....youtube.com/channel/UCYAzdvTKwlfPxOTVmYMoAjg

I know it's fun to treat dealers like they do nothing but lie and cheat, but that is not always the case. In this case the dealer is telling you the truth. They did not sell the 633 in the USA.

You've got a rare piece of equipment there. Really an orphan. Fortunately the world has opened up with the Internet and worst case you should be able to get some parts from Europe if you absolutely need to.

I do agree ... I have actually found some very very good dealers who were more than willing to help find parts and give advice. Heck, one even sends me "gifts" every time I order from him.

I have farms on all sides of me and lots of brands of equipment. This dealer just does not seem to want to go any further than he has to ... had this problem a few times.

It does seem this tractor was sold in Canada ... we are only an hour from the boarder ... which makes sense.

Maybe just getting new material riveted onto the backing plates is possible ... I know "back in the day, trucks always had new material riveted onto the backing shoes.

Thanks!

Mike
