clutch in a KT

I know the flywheel & clutch are different than later, but will the over-center assembly work? the clutch will disengage while traveling & you have to hold the clutch lever in all the time. The original is really worn & want to replace with later style. Thanks!

My books show same clutch is same in the U series.KT,KTA.
