Clutch issues

Just installed a new clutch on a mf 50 and can not get the transmission clutch to engage. Anyone have a clue? I’ve had it apart two times but can’t figure anything out.

Not sure what you mean, does it RELEASE with the pedal DOWN? Will the tractor move with the pedal UP and transmission in any gear? Were there THREE shipping bolts removed from the cover assembly if fitted? Clutch WILL NOT work if those bolts are not removed.

the bolts are removed. But that is what it acts like. The PTO clutch will hold. I can roll the fly wheel with tractor in gear.

Not to familiar with them. But sounds like a pressure plate through out issue. Clutch disk in backwards? Pressure plate not adjusted correctly if it has fingers? Bent or damage disk or plate?

Thanks for the replies. I never took into account how much play that was in the drive train gear. There was about two total rotations before the slack was taken up. So I’ve split it three times lol. The last time I broke my alignment tool. So now waiting on another one. Thanks again.

Hello Bennetdr, welcome to YT! Interesting, splitting it three times is beyond experience.. that is shoving the meter into the painful task zone. Never started the engine to try it? Seems that would make it nearly deserved. Hope it all pans out from this point forward.

Not familiar with the 50, but check your friction disc orientation. Often the splined hub in the center of the friction disc extends a little further on one side than the other, and if you have it around the wrong way it won't allow it to bolt up properly or engage/disengage correctly.

Did you check the internal adjustments before rolling the tractor back together? Did you adjust the clutch pedal free travel after it was together? Those are all important.
